NYLER FREDERICK
Form-five has done nothing to destroy the dreams of Nyler. She graduated from Choiseul Secondary School on July 3rd 2007 and is one of the young writers who thinks about life deeply with all its cares and faults. One of her poems was entered in my first book.

WHY WAS I DOOMED

Why was I doomed?
With a life of treachery
And lies;

A life of hate
It’s part of my blood
I can’t control it.

Why was I doomed?
To belong to such a family
I should be happy
But instead I’m lonely,
I should be loving
Instead I’m full of hatred.

Why wasn’t I blessed?

Why was I cursed?
How should I put out this flame of hatred
And replace it with a life of love
Care and tenderness?

Why was I doomed?

I picture myself as a blushing red rose,
As vigorous and as vibrant as a cheetah
Running round in the fields.

But some things were not meant to be.
I guess I’ll just have to accept
My life as it is
Because I’m doomed.

One would read this poem and may interpret it wrongly, but a couple days around the writer and every line will be understood. Nyler is a very exciting person to be around. In form-three, she wrote this poem to sensitize the people about how young people feel sometimes especially when they believe that their world is crumbling. Many persons who read this peom at some point said that they can relate to what is written. Nyler is now a fifth-former at the Choiseul Secondary School and has continued to write poems addressing many situations.

She is a resident of Laborie and a jovial person. She always persists at the things that she puts her mind to and dreams of dreams that she one day will make become a reality.

More of her work will be posted to allow reader to get familiar with her poetic style.
