THE EDITOR 1
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am 21yrs of age, another youth pressured by the system. I don’t like talking about politics because it makes me wanna
become a politician just to show these veterans how the young people can work with honesty and perseverance. I’m tired of the hypocrisy of our democracy and that of our government who seems to be expeditiously creating more expedient ways of trampling over morals that society already lacks. And to add insult to injury, that same government that was elected by the people, to work for the people and answerable to the people, is boldly forfeiting its purpose, with no modicum of decency and integrity to account for its credibility. I am tired of hearing over and over again, the same headline on the news; kinda like Lucia on replay.
One would think that the least of the government’s interest would be individual citizens, but I assure you, it is as if we don’t even exist – well up until Election Day! Presently, governmental activities are filled with ambiguities and obscurities. It is like they’re on stealth mode and somehow, some local radar picks them up, but they start shooting guided missiles “black is blue.” And to mention audacity; some of our ministers really have that daring boldness. Things these days are really getting bad. It was good news to me when I heard that the economy is on the rise, but let’s face it; if one had to interview the citizens, they would discover that, instead of life getting better and more affordable, the economy has gone worse – no improvement.
Jobs are still hard to find and by the way, unemployed persons have to be wealthy to acquire work because curriculum vitaes and photocopies of certificates – though done in vain – get you broke. I guess that’s another reason why young people are unemployed. They have to spend money that they don’t have.
Well, with so much controversy now, our country is only going backwards fast. And those party-oriented people (political)
really need to open their eyes. We are supposed to be better than this. When fault is due, we should swallow our pride and lay blame with no preference. We shouldn’t tolerate half-truths because they are as good as lies. We have to morph out of this evolutionary era that has poisoned young and old minds alike, having them defend “de party” and totally forgetting the purpose of “de party’s” existence. We need to wake up.
Egregious crimes are fading away cries with little said or done. We’re suffering from a seemingly incurable ailment where injustice has become axioms and the squawks of concerned persons and victims are ignored. We are far from development – well at least the grown-ups are since they are adamant in
belief and defence of politicians (NB: not politics). St. Lucia needs a revival. We need God.
Respectfully,
S. A. D.
