Press Bio 2007
Courtney “Curty” Louis blazing a trail as St. Lucia’s top music producer.

Who is he and how did he get involved in music? His name is Courtney “Curty” Louis (also moonlights as Dirty Dutch) and at 25 years, he is presently riding a wave of popularity not just here in St. Lucia, but in the islands on Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent, Grenada and Barbados as a music producer.
Earlier this year “The St. Lucian Riddim,” Curty’s Soca riddim track made a huge impact on every station in Trinidad during their 2k6 Carnival celebrations.

It featured the likes of KMC, Trini Jacobs, Naya George, Knycky Cordner and Tallpree among others. The songs have since crossed over, heating up other parts of the Caribbean, North America and London as well. “The St. Lucian Riddim” was also nominated for an award at the 2006 Soca Awards in New York.

Born and raised on the island of St. Lucia, Curty has always had an interest in music, but it was whilst he was attending school at St. Mary’s College in St. Lucia, that it started to peak.

At first, he simply wanted to Deejay and blend sounds. But after penning a winning Calypso for a schoolmate for their annual Calypso competition, he knew he wanted more. Curty then moved to Barbados to take up studies in sound engineering.

Whilst there, he found himself in the company of persons like Deejay and producer Peter Coppin who at the time was working with Lil Rick. Once again he felt the music bug and knew that he was cut out for making beats, making music.

On his return to St. Lucia in 2002, he got hooked on the dancehall and Reggae scene and started producing work with up and coming acts, also performing as Curty Rankin’.

But his first noted piece of work would have to be with the St. Lucian performer Ninja Dan on a song called “Karate,” which launched the Soca career of the St. Lucian performer and was a major hit in St. Lucia. In between, Curty also dabbled with performing some of his own material with a group he helped form called GOB (Gentlemen on Business).

However as of 2004, he decided to focus more on his production, still working with new artists. That year he helped launch the career of another St. Lucian performer “Q-pid” with the song “Helicopter,” which was also a popular number.

In 2005 he once again worked with Ninja Dan, producing “Carnival Is On Fire (Heat)” and Q-pid on “Oh Carnival,” “Born to be free,” and “Stickin.’ Along with “Q-pid” he recorded “In A Band.”

For the past three years Curty has been traveling to Trinidad to utilize studios there to start working on material for St. Lucia’s Carnival which is in July. In 2005 he made the trek earlier, in September, and also started shopping around his material.

The first person who was hooked was Naya George, who wanted to do one of Curty’s songs “In a band” for the 2006 Carnival season.

The rest will now be etched in Soca history. Naya George is riding a wave of success with “In A band” on “The St. Lucian Riddim,” as well as KMC; “This Season Is Mine,” Knycky Cordner; “De Streets,” Tallpree; “Tallpree is back” and several others.

St. Lucia’s 2004 Soca Monarch and Road March king and the 2005 Soca Monarch Alpha is also featured on the Riddim along with Gail Ann of Trinidad doing “Carnival Nou La.”

The Riddim was later endorsed by The St. Lucia Tourist Board and the Cultural Development Foundation to be used as the music-bed to market St. Lucia Carnival 2k6 regionally.

Curty has also produced the groovy Soca track “Baby Girl” for Sean Caruth a former member of Xtatik. This song was also on heavy rotation on radio stations throughout the Caribbean and north America, playing a heavy diet of Soca and Caribbean music. Sean Caruth also made it to the Groovy Soca monarch finals in Trinidad with the song.

Following his success in Trinidad, Curty has not stopped working. He produced a number of hits for St. Lucia’s 2006 Carnival season including “The Pen Song” by Kakal “Water” for Q-Pid, “Outside man” for Ninja Dan as well as the winning Soca Monarch song there “Happy Birthday Carnival” by Alpha.

In June 2006 Curty made frequent trips to Grenada and produced songs for the then Baby Killa now Mr. Killa, in addition to working with Talpree (former Grenada soca monarch).

The rest is history as Curty continued his winning streak at Grenada’s carnival having produced both the Groovy Soca Number and the Soca Monarch tune for Mr. Killa. After Grenada carnival Curty returned to Trinidad and produced new songs for Naya George, Destra, KMC,

Currently Curty has been hard at work getting set to release a number of songs for Trinidad Carnival 2007. Some of the artist he is working with presently include KMC, Naya George, Machel and Destra.
